This iconic crater is rich in beryllium, lithium, tantalum and dozens of precious minerals, boasting extraordinary geological research value and mining history. Learn about its glorious mining legacy and unique geological formation, appreciating the rare fusion of industrial and natural landscapes.

After a fulfilling day, drive westward about 3 hours to the quiet frontier town Burqin County. The landscape changes significantly along the way, transitioning from dense alpine forests to open hilly wilderness, with a broad field of vision. This unique Yardang water-eroded landscape is famous for its vivid multicolored rock walls. Polished by thousands of years of wind and water erosion, layered rock walls display rich hues of red, orange, yellow, green and purple. Sunset gilds the rock clusters, reflecting on the rolling river, creating a stunning, dreamlike colorful landscape—northern Xinjiang's top sunset spot with high visual appeal.

Later, drive westward about 2 hours to enter northern Xinjiang's unique Gobi desert zone. The roadside scenery turns into vast barren Gobi and flat desert terrain, desolate and magnificent, arriving at the world-famous Urho Ghost City (Yardang Scenic Area), a typical wind-eroded Yardang landform and one of China's most famous desert wonders. Countless bizarre rock formations stand in the vast barren Gobi, shaped like palaces, animals and peaks. Strong winds howl through gullies, creating eerie echoes that give the spot its name. The boundless Gobi and strange rock groups present a grand, desolate, shocking desert beauty.

In the afternoon, drive about 30 minutes to visit Karamay Primitive Populus Euphratica Forest, a rare pristine desert poplar reserve. The roadside is dominated by desert and sparse drought-resistant vegetation, highlighting the tenacious desert ecology. Thousands of years old poplar trees stand tenaciously in the arid desert, with twisted, powerful forms. They witness desert vicissitudes and embody indomitable vitality. The fusion of ancient poplars, yellow sand Gobi and blue sky forms a wild, shocking primitive desert landscape. After the tour, drive about 40 minutes to Karamay urban area for overnight accommodation.

Undulating terrain and jagged rough rock walls fully display nature's uncanny craftsmanship. Standing on safe professional viewing platforms, you can overlook the endless grand canyon valleys and distant vast Gobi wilderness, feeling the bold, desolate and magnificent geological charm of northern Xinjiang.

After immersive canyon sightseeing, continue driving about 1.5 hours to Jinghe County for overnight accommodation. The route returns to flat basin terrain, with gentle and open roadside scenery. The landscape changes drastically along the way, transforming from dry basin wilderness to lush alpine grasslands, with vibrant and fresh scenery all the way. Hailed as the "Blue Pearl of Tianshan Mountains" and "Western Frontier's Last Pure Land", it ranks among China's top ten most beautiful alpine lakes. At an altitude of 2,073 meters, this closed alpine lake boasts extremely pure, transparent azure water with distinct color layers. Surrounded by snow-capped Tianshan peaks and endless green grasslands dotted with blooming wildflowers and wandering flocks and herds, the perfect fusion of snow peaks, blue lake, green grass and wildflowers forms a fairy-tale healing pastoral scene, known as the most romantic lake landscape in Xinjiang. Enjoy relaxed core sightseeing and photography here without rushed schedules.

In the midday, drive about 2 hours to Yining City, the "Pearl of Ili". The journey crosses Tianshan branch veins, with continuous mountain forests and crisscrossing grassland valleys full of vitality. Upon arrival, visit the distinctive Kazanqi Folk Tourism Area, a classic Uyghur block that preserves Yining's most authentic ethnic charm. Colorful painted folk dwellings, crisscrossing quiet alleys and blooming flower baskets fill the area with strong Central Asian exotic vibes. You can wander through the streets, watch traditional handicraft performances, experience local Uyghur daily life, and appreciate the unique exotic style of frontier cities. We arrange sufficient casual wandering time for this ethnic check-in.

After finishing the in-depth ethnic custom tour in Yining, embark on the return trip to Urumqi, with a driving time of about 4 hours. Excellent service and a stress-free family trip from start to finish

This 11-day private tour through Shanghai, Suzhou, and Hangzhou was one of the most enjoyable family trips we have ever taken. What really stood out for us was the service from start to finish. Jennifer was our main contact from Buer China Travel and she was absolutely fantastic. She responded quickly to every message, patiently adjusted the itinerary multiple times based on our preferences, and always made us feel like everything was under control. It really gave us peace of mind before even arriving in China. During the trip, everything ran smoothly. There were no stressful moments at all. Our guide was extremely kind, patient, and very knowledgeable. She had a wonderful way of explaining the history behind each site without making it feel like a lecture, and she was especially good with our children, which made a huge difference for our family. We also appreciated how flexible the itinerary was. We never felt rushed, and we had enough time to truly enjoy each destination, whether it was walking along West Lake in Hangzhou or exploring the classical gardens in Suzhou. Overall, this was a very well-organized and thoughtfully designed trip. We would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting China for the first time.
