Day 2 Beijing – Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven & Authentic Hutong Experience

Accommodation Accommodation:
4 star/5 star hotel/botique hotel (can be customized)
MealMeal:
Meals are flexible and can be included or excluded. When included, authentic local dining will be arranged.

After breakfast at your hotel, your guide meets you in the lobby and you begin a full day exploring Beijing's most iconic historical and cultural landmarks. Today is designed as a journey through the heart of imperial China, but paced in a way that feels comfortable and easy to follow. Your private vehicle is ready outside, so you don't need to navigate traffic or entrance logistics—everything is arranged in advance so you can focus entirely on the experience.

Your first stop is Tiananmen Square, one of the largest public squares in the world and a symbolic center of modern China. As you stand here in the morning light, your guide will help you understand the surrounding landmarks and their historical significance, giving context to what you are seeing rather than just passing through.

From here, you walk toward the entrance of the Forbidden City, where the scale of the city begins to shift dramatically. You then enter Forbidden City, the imperial palace that served as the home of Chinese emperors for almost 500 years. Once you step through the gates, the city noise disappears completely, replaced by vast courtyards, red walls, golden roofs, and carefully aligned halls stretching in a straight ceremonial axis. Instead of rushing through, your guide leads you step by step through the main architectural sequence—from outer courts used for official ceremonies to inner palaces where imperial life took place. Along the way, you will begin to notice subtle design principles: symmetry, hierarchy, and spatial control, all reflecting how power was structured in ancient China.

A local lunch is arranged near the area after your visit, giving you time to rest and enjoy a traditional Beijing-style meal.

In the afternoon, your journey continues to Temple of Heaven. Compared to the Forbidden City's dense imperial layout, this site feels more open and balanced, surrounded by large green parklands. Here, emperors once performed rituals to pray for good harvests. As you walk through the circular altars and open courtyards, your guide will explain the symbolic relationship between heaven, earth, and imperial authority in Chinese philosophy. The atmosphere here is calmer, and you can often see locals practicing tai chi or playing traditional instruments in the surrounding park, adding a very authentic daily-life layer to the experience.

After the Temple of Heaven, you move into one of Beijing's most character-rich neighborhoods—the traditional Hutong area. Unlike monumental architecture, this part of the day brings you into everyday life. Narrow lanes, courtyard houses, small family-run shops, and local residents create a very different rhythm from the morning's imperial sites. You will walk through selected Hutong streets with your guide, who will explain how these neighborhoods have preserved Beijing's traditional living structure for centuries.

If time allows, you can also step into a local courtyard home, giving you a closer look at how space and community coexist in this historic urban form.

In the late afternoon, your driver takes you back to your hotel. The rest of the evening is free for you to rest or explore nearby areas at your own pace, after a full but well-balanced introduction to Beijing's imperial, spiritual, and local cultures.

Day 3 Beijing – Mutianyu Great Wall, Bird's Nest and Water Cube Exterior Visit

Accommodation Accommodation:
4 star/5 star hotel/botique hotel (can be customized)
MealMeal:
Meals are flexible and can be included or excluded. When included, authentic local dining will be arranged.

After breakfast, your guide meets you in the hotel lobby and you leave Beijing's city center behind, heading toward the northern mountain region. Today is designed as a full-day journey into one of the world's most iconic landmarks—the Great Wall of China—combined with modern Olympic architecture in the afternoon. Your private vehicle is arranged for the entire day, so you can simply relax during the drive while your guide introduces the history and layout of today's route.

The journey takes you toward Mutianyu Great Wall, one of the best-preserved and most scenic sections of the Great Wall. Compared with more crowded areas, Mutianyu offers a more comfortable walking experience and wider panoramic views of surrounding forests and rolling hills.

Upon arrival, your tickets and entrance arrangements are already prepared, so you move smoothly through the access area without waiting in long queues.

You take the round-way cable car up the mountain, which already gives you your first aerial view of the Great Wall stretching across the ridgelines. As you step off at the upper section, the landscape opens up in every direction—stone pathways following the contours of the mountains, watchtowers rising at intervals, and the wall disappearing into distant peaks.

Your guide will suggest a walking route based on your pace and weather conditions. You are free to walk along different sections of the wall, stop at watchtowers for photos, or simply take in the silence and scale of the landscape. This is often one of the most visually powerful moments of the entire journey, especially when the visibility is clear.

A local lunch is arranged near the Great Wall area after your visit, giving you time to rest before returning to the city.

In the afternoon, you head back toward central Beijing, where the atmosphere shifts completely from natural landscape to modern architecture.

You make a stop at the exterior of Beijing National Stadium (Bird's Nest) and Water Cube. These two structures, built for the 2008 Olympic Games, represent Beijing's transformation into a global modern city.

Instead of entering, this stop focuses on photography and viewing from the outside, where you can clearly appreciate the contrast between the steel structure of the Bird's Nest and the glowing cube-like design of the Water Cube.

After the visit, your driver takes you back to your hotel in Beijing. The evening is free for you to rest or explore nearby areas at your own pace, after a full day combining mountain landscapes, ancient architecture, and modern Olympic landmarks.

Day 4 Beijing to Xi'an by High-Speed Train: Summer Palace Visit and Bullet Train Journey to Ancient Xi’an

Accommodation Accommodation:
4 star/5 star hotel/botique hotel (can be customized)
MealMeal:
Meals are flexible and can be included or excluded. When included, authentic local dining will be arranged.

After breakfast, your guide meets you in the hotel lobby and you begin your final morning in Beijing. Today is a transition day—moving from the imperial capital into one of China's most important ancient cities, Xi'an.

Your private vehicle takes you directly toward your morning visit, and all timing is carefully arranged so you can enjoy a relaxed pace before your high-speed train departure.

Your first stop is Summer Palace, a vast imperial garden where lakes, bridges, and palaces blend into a carefully designed landscape. Compared to the grand symmetry of the Forbidden City, this place feels more natural and open, as if the architecture is built to follow the shape of the water and hills.

You will walk along the lakeside corridors, cross the famous marble boat area, and explore key viewpoints overlooking Kunming Lake. Your guide will explain how the emperors used this site as a summer retreat, combining political power with leisure and landscape design. The pace here is intentionally slower, giving you time to enjoy both the scenery and the atmosphere.

A local lunch is arranged after the visit at a nearby restaurant before your transfer to the railway station.

In the afternoon, your driver takes you to the high-speed railway station for your journey from Beijing to Xi'an. Your tickets are pre-arranged, and your guide assists you with boarding, ensuring a smooth and stress-free transition.

As the train leaves Beijing behind, the city skyline gradually fades into open plains, farmland, and distant mountain silhouettes. This is one of the most comfortable ways to experience China's geographical scale—moving quickly but smoothly between two historic capitals.

Upon arrival at Xi'an Railway Station, your local driver is already waiting at the exit with your name sign. From here, you are transferred directly to your hotel in Xi'an.

There is no additional sightseeing scheduled for the evening, giving you time to rest after the travel day and prepare for tomorrow's full exploration of Xi'an's ancient capital history.

Day 5 Xi'an – Terracotta Warriors, Pottery Workshop, Ancient City Wall & Bell Tower Square Experience

Accommodation Accommodation:
4 star/5 star hotel/botique hotel (can be customized)
MealMeal:
Meals are flexible and can be included or excluded. When included, authentic local dining will be arranged.

After breakfast at your hotel, your guide meets you in the lobby and you begin a full day exploring Xi'an, the ancient capital of China and one of the most historically significant cities along the Silk Road. Your private vehicle is ready outside, and today's route is designed to move from imperial history to living city culture in a smooth and logical flow.

Your first destination is Terracotta Army, one of the greatest archaeological discoveries in the world. As you arrive, your tickets are already arranged, so you enter without delays and follow your guide directly into the excavation halls. Inside, thousands of life-sized soldiers stand in formation, each with unique facial expressions and details. Your guide will help you understand how this massive underground army was built to protect China's first emperor in the afterlife, and how each pit represents different military formations. Instead of rushing through, you move gradually from Pit 1 to Pit 2 and Pit 3, allowing time to absorb the scale and craftsmanship of the site. This is often one of the most impressive moments of the entire journey.

After the visit, a local lunch is arranged at a nearby restaurant, giving you time to rest and experience authentic Shaanxi cuisine before continuing the afternoon program.

In the early afternoon, you visit a traditional pottery workshop, where local artisans demonstrate how replica warriors and ancient ceramics are made using traditional techniques. This stop gives you a closer, hands-on understanding of the craftsmanship behind what you just saw at the Terracotta Army, connecting history with living tradition.

Next, you head toward the Xi'an City Wall, one of the best-preserved ancient city walls in China. Here, you can choose to walk or cycle along the top of the massive structure, where the full layout of Xi'an's old city unfolds beneath you. As you move along the wall, your guide will point out the city gates and explain how Xi'an was once a key gateway on the Silk Road, connecting China with Central Asia and beyond. The atmosphere here is more relaxed, offering a wide contrast to the intensity of the morning visit.

As the sun begins to lower, you continue to Bell Tower Square, the symbolic center of Xi'an. Standing here, you are surrounded by modern city life layered over ancient foundations. The Bell Tower itself marks the historical heart of the city, where major routes once radiated outward in all directions. This is also a great area for evening photos as the lights begin to turn on and the city transitions into night.

After the visit, your driver takes you back to your hotel. The evening is free for you to explore nearby streets or rest, as tomorrow you will fly from Xi'an to Shanghai and continue your journey into modern China.

Day 6 Xi'an to Shanghai by Flight: Muslim Quarter, Gao Family Courtyard, Big Wild Goose Pagoda & Arrival in Modern Shanghai

Accommodation Accommodation:
4 star/5 star hotel/botique hotel (can be customized)
MealMeal:
Meals are flexible and can be included or excluded. When included, authentic local dining will be arranged.

After breakfast, your guide meets you at the hotel and today begins your transition from ancient Xi'an to modern Shanghai. Your private vehicle is arranged for the morning, and all timing is carefully coordinated so you can explore key highlights before your afternoon flight.

Your first stop is Muslim Quarter, one of the most vibrant and culturally rich areas in the city. Unlike traditional historical sites, this is where Xi'an's daily life truly comes alive. Narrow streets are filled with food stalls, local snacks, and centuries-old culinary traditions blending Chinese and Islamic influences. Your guide will walk you through selected lanes, helping you understand which local specialties are worth trying while also giving you time to explore freely. The atmosphere here is lively but still deeply rooted in history, making it one of the most memorable walking experiences in Xi'an.

Next, you continue to Gao Family Courtyard, a well-preserved traditional residence that showcases the architectural style of northern Shaanxi merchant families. Inside, you will walk through courtyards, wooden halls, and decorative screens that reflect how wealthy households once lived during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Your guide will highlight the carvings, spatial layout, and cultural symbolism, helping you see how private life and traditional etiquette were expressed through architecture.

From here, you move to the area of Big Wild Goose Pagoda, specifically the North Plaza. This landmark is closely linked to the journey of Buddhist monk Xuanzang and the introduction of Buddhist scriptures into China. The surrounding square is spacious and open, offering a calm contrast to the busy Muslim Quarter earlier in the day. This is also a good place for final photos in Xi'an before departure.

A local lunch is arranged before your transfer to the airport, giving you time to rest and prepare for the next stage of your journey.

In the afternoon, your driver takes you to Xi'an airport for your domestic flight to Shanghai. Your tickets are pre-arranged, and check-in support is provided so your transfer is smooth and stress-free.

Upon arrival at Shanghai Pudong International Airport, your local driver is already waiting at the exit. You are transferred directly to your hotel in Shanghai, where the atmosphere shifts again—from ancient capital history to a global modern metropolis filled with lights, skyline views, and energy.

The evening is free for you to rest after the travel day and prepare for your exploration of Shanghai tomorrow.

Day 7 Shanghai – Shikumen, Yuyuan Garden, City God Temple, Shanghai History Museum, Oriental Pearl Tower & The Bund

Accommodation Accommodation:
4 star/5 star hotel/botique hotel (can be customized)
MealMeal:
Meals are flexible and can be included or excluded. When included, authentic local dining will be arranged.

After breakfast, your guide meets you at the hotel and today you begin a full exploration of Shanghai—where traditional neighborhoods, classical gardens, and futuristic skyline views come together in one single day.

Your private vehicle is arranged for the entire route, so you move comfortably between each stop without worrying about traffic or navigation.

Your first stop is the Shikumen area, where you begin to understand the layered identity of Shanghai. These traditional stone-gate houses once formed the backbone of residential life in old Shanghai, and today they still preserve narrow lanes, shared courtyards, and a very local rhythm of daily living.

Walking through these lanes with your guide, you will notice how old residential architecture has gradually transformed into creative spaces, cafés, and boutique shops while still keeping its original structure intact.

From here, you continue to Yuyuan Garden, one of the most famous classical gardens in the city. Inside the garden, carefully designed pavilions, rock formations, and ponds create a compact but highly detailed landscape where every angle feels like a framed painting.

Right next to it, you also pass through the City God Temple of Shanghai area, where traditional streets are filled with local snacks, small shops, and incense-filled temples. Your guide will help you navigate the area and point out local specialties while also giving you time to explore at your own pace.

A local lunch is arranged in the area, allowing you to rest before continuing into Shanghai's modern identity.

In the afternoon, you visit the Shanghai History Museum, where you gain a deeper understanding of how the city evolved from a trading port into a global metropolis. Exhibits help connect everything you have seen so far—from traditional neighborhoods to modern skyscrapers.

Next, you head toward the financial district and visit the exterior of the Oriental Pearl Tower, one of Shanghai's most iconic landmarks. From here, you can fully feel the contrast between historical Shanghai and its futuristic skyline.

Finally, you arrive at The Bund. As evening approaches, the lights across the Huangpu River begin to glow, revealing one of the most famous skyline views in Asia. Your guide will position you at the best viewing points so you can experience both sides of the river—the historic buildings on one side and the modern skyscrapers on the other.

After the visit, your driver takes you back to your hotel. The evening is free for you to relax or explore nearby streets, ending a full day that brings together Shanghai's past, present, and future in one continuous journey.

Day 8 Shanghai to Huangshan by High-Speed Train: Free Morning, Arrival in Tunxi Old Street & Evening Stroll

Accommodation Accommodation:
4 star/5 star hotel/botique hotel (can be customized)
MealMeal:
Meals are flexible and can be included or excluded. When included, authentic local dining will be arranged.

After breakfast, your guide meets you at the hotel and today you begin your transition from Shanghai's modern skyline into the natural landscapes of Huangshan. Your private driver takes you to the high-speed railway station, and all tickets are pre-arranged in advance. You simply check in and board your train without any stress or waiting in line.

As the train departs from Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station, the city quickly begins to fade into a mix of suburbs, rivers, farmland, and distant hills. This is one of the most comfortable ways to experience China's changing geography in real time.

Upon arrival at Huangshan North Railway Station, your local driver is already waiting at the exit with your name sign. From here, you are transferred directly to your hotel in Tunxi, the historic district of Huangshan City. The drive is short but scenic, passing through quiet streets and traditional Hui-style architecture that signals you are now in a very different part of China compared to Shanghai.

After check-in, the rest of the late morning and early afternoon is free for you to rest and recover from the travel journey.

In the late afternoon, your guide takes you to Tunxi Old Street, one of the best-preserved historic streets in the region. This area is known for its Hui-style buildings, with white walls, dark tiled roofs, and wooden storefronts that reflect centuries of merchant culture. Walking along the stone-paved lanes, you will find tea shops, ink workshops, local snack stalls, and traditional craft stores. Your guide will introduce the history of the street and help you understand how Tunxi once served as an important trade hub connecting mountain villages with larger commercial cities. Unlike the fast pace of Shanghai, the atmosphere here feels slow, warm, and deeply local.

A relaxed dinner is arranged in the old street area, giving you your first taste of Anhui cuisine, which is more earthy and subtle compared to the flavors of eastern coastal cities. After dinner, your driver takes you back to the hotel. The evening is free for rest, preparing you for tomorrow's full-day exploration of Mt. Huangshan.

Day 9 Huangshan - Huangshan Mountain Full Day Exploration

Accommodation Accommodation:
4 star/5 star hotel/botique hotel (can be customized)
MealMeal:
Meals served onboard the Yangtze River Cruise

After breakfast in your hotel in Tunxi, your guide meets you in the lobby and today you head into the highlight of this entire journey—Huangshan Mountain. Your private vehicle takes you directly to the scenic area entrance, and all tickets, cable car access, and route arrangements are pre-organized. You don't need to manage anything today—just follow your guide and enjoy the experience at a comfortable pace.

After arriving at the mountain entrance, you take the cable car up into the core scenic area. As the gondola rises, the landscape quickly transforms from forested slopes to dramatic granite peaks, with mist drifting between valleys and pine trees growing directly from rock cliffs. Once you step out at the upper station, the temperature drops slightly and the environment becomes noticeably quieter. This is where the real essence of Huangshan begins.

Your first walking section covers the Begin-to-Believe Peak area, where some of the most iconic natural formations of the mountain appear one after another. Your guide will choose a route based on weather and crowd conditions, ensuring you always get the clearest viewpoints available on the day.

Along the way, you will see twisted ancient pines, narrow ridgelines, and layered rock formations that seem almost sculpted rather than naturally formed. The scenery changes constantly as mist moves through the valleys, sometimes revealing deep horizons, sometimes hiding entire peaks within seconds. If weather conditions are favorable, you may also experience the famous cloud sea effect, where mountain peaks appear like islands floating above a sea of white mist. This is one of the most sought-after moments in Huangshan, and your guide will adjust timing and viewpoints to maximize your chances of seeing it.

A simple lunch is arranged within the mountain scenic area, allowing you to rest without leaving the core route.

In the afternoon, you continue exploring different viewpoints along selected trails, focusing on areas with open panoramic views and classic pine tree formations. Instead of rushing through multiple checkpoints, the route is designed to give you time to pause, take photos, and fully absorb the scale of the landscape.

By late afternoon, you return by cable car back down the mountain.

Your driver is waiting at the exit and transfers you back to your hotel in Tunxi. The rest of the evening is free for rest, marking the end of your full-day exploration of the legendary Yellow Mountains before tomorrow's final cultural stop at Hongcun Village.

Day 10 Huangshan to Shanghai by High-Speed Train: Hongcun Village Visit and Return to Shanghai

Accommodation Accommodation:
4 star/5 star hotel/botique hotel (can be customized)
MealMeal:
Meals are flexible and can be included or excluded. When included, authentic local dining will be arranged.

After breakfast in Tunxi, your guide meets you at the hotel and today you begin your return journey toward Shanghai. This is a more relaxed travel day, combining cultural exploration with a smooth high-speed rail transfer back to the city. Your private vehicle is ready outside, and all logistics are pre-arranged so you can enjoy the day without worrying about timing or navigation.

Your first stop is Hongcun Village, one of the most beautifully preserved ancient villages in China and a UNESCO World Heritage site. As you enter the village, the scenery immediately changes into a living ink-painting landscape—whitewashed walls, dark tiled roofs, and calm water canals reflecting every building with almost perfect symmetry. Unlike typical sightseeing spots, Hongcun still functions as a real village, so you will see local life blending naturally with historic architecture. Your guide will lead you through key highlights such as the Moon Pond and surrounding residential lanes, explaining how the entire village was designed based on water systems and feng shui principles. Walking through narrow stone paths and small bridges, you begin to understand why Hongcun is often described as "a village shaped like a painting."

A local lunch is arranged either inside or near the village, giving you time to rest before your afternoon transfer.

After the visit, your driver takes you back to Huangshan North Railway Station for your high-speed train back to Shanghai. Your tickets are pre-booked, and your guide assists you with boarding, ensuring a smooth and stress-free departure. As the train leaves Huangshan behind, the landscape gradually shifts from mountains and countryside back to rivers, towns, and finally the skyline of Shanghai.

Upon arrival at Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station, your local driver is already waiting at the exit. You are transferred directly to your hotel in Shanghai.

The evening is free for you to relax or take a final walk in the city, marking the transition from natural landscapes back into one of Asia's most modern urban environments.

Day 11 Departure Shanghai – Transfer to Shanghai Airport

Accommodation Accommodation:
4 star/5 star hotel/botique hotel (can be customized)
MealMeal:
Meals are flexible and can be included or excluded. When included, authentic local dining will be arranged.

After ten unforgettable days crossing Beijing, Xi'an, Shanghai, and the mountains of Huangshan, your final morning in Shanghai begins at a relaxed pace.

You wake up at your hotel and enjoy a slow breakfast, taking a final moment to absorb the city's energy before departure. Depending on your flight schedule, you may still have time to rest or simply look out over Shanghai's skyline one last time.

At the scheduled time, your guide meets you at the hotel and assists with check-out. Your private driver is already waiting outside, and your luggage is handled smoothly so you don't need to manage anything yourself.

You are then transferred directly to Shanghai airport in a comfortable private vehicle. The journey is fully arranged, ensuring a stress-free and timely arrival at the airport.

Upon arrival, your driver assists you until the departure area, making sure everything is clear before you proceed with your flight check-in.

This marks the end of your 11-day journey through China's most iconic destinations—starting from imperial Beijing, continuing through ancient Xi'an, experiencing modern Shanghai, and ending with the natural beauty of Mt. Huangshan and Hongcun Village.

Excellent service and a stress-free family trip from start to finish

This 11-day private tour through Shanghai, Suzhou, and Hangzhou was one of the most enjoyable family trips we have ever taken. What really stood out for us was the service from start to finish. Jennifer was our main contact from Buer China Travel and she was absolutely fantastic. She responded quickly to every message, patiently adjusted the itinerary multiple times based on our preferences, and always made us feel like everything was under control. It really gave us peace of mind before even arriving in China. During the trip, everything ran smoothly. There were no stressful moments at all. Our guide was extremely kind, patient, and very knowledgeable. She had a wonderful way of explaining the history behind each site without making it feel like a lecture, and she was especially good with our children, which made a huge difference for our family. We also appreciated how flexible the itinerary was. We never felt rushed, and we had enough time to truly enjoy each destination, whether it was walking along West Lake in Hangzhou or exploring the classical gardens in Suzhou.
