Accommodation Accommodation:
4 star/5 star hotel/botique hotel (can be customized)
MealMeal:
Meals are flexible and can be included or excluded. When included, authentic local dining will be arranged.

Today we explore the classic urban landmarks of Xi'an, experiencing the thousand-year charm of this ancient capital. The itinerary is relaxed with moderate walking intensity.

The first stop is the Xi'an Ancient City Wall, the largest, most intact and best-preserved Ming Dynasty city wall complex in China, standing as an iconic cultural symbol of Xi'an's thousand-year heritage. Encircling the entire ancient urban area with a total perimeter of 13.7 kilometers, this well-preserved military architectural relic features solid grey ancient bricks, neat and continuous crenellations, towering gate towers and sturdy ramparts, perfectly retaining the complete spatial pattern and architectural style of ancient Chang'an city. Bearing thousands of years of historical vicissitudes, every brick and rampart witnesses the prosperity of the 13-dynasty ancient capital and the evolution of urban civilization. The spacious and flat wall top offers a superb panoramic viewing perspective: overlooking inward, you can capture the neat layout of traditional ancient courtyards, antique streets and old urban alleyways; looking outward, the bustling modern urban clusters and vibrant city scenery come into full view. The perfect fusion of profound ancient charm and trendy modern vitality creates a stunning cross-temporal landscape unique to Xi'an.

Optional Activity: If you are interested in cycling on the city wall, you can consult our professional guide for detailed information about official bicycle rental services, rental fees, safe cycling routes and viewing-focused riding arrangements to enjoy a relaxed and unique wall sightseeing experience.

Then visit Bell and Drum Tower Square, the absolute geographical core and timeless cultural symbol of Xi'an ancient city. Consisting of two landmark ancient architectures — the Bell Tower and Drum Tower, this well-preserved twin-tower complex boasts a history of over 600 years dating back to the Ming Dynasty, witnessing the vicissitudes and prosperity of the ancient Chang'an capital. Crafted with sophisticated pure wooden mortise and tenon structures, the buildings feature exquisite carved beams, painted rafters, layered upturned eaves and gorgeous colored paintings, fully embodying the supreme architectural aesthetics and traditional craft wisdom of ancient China. In ancient times, the Bell Tower and Drum Tower undertook important urban timing and ritual functions, ringing bells at dawn and beating drums at dusk to regulate the daily life of the city. Standing tall at the intersection of four major ancient streets, the twin towers present a grand, solemn and elegant silhouette under bright daylight. Surrounded by antique street landscapes and modern urban prosperity, it forms a unique layered scenery that perfectly integrates ancient history and modern vitality. It is the most classic and must-check-in landmark for shooting panoramic city views and ancient architectural portraits in Xi'an.

In the evening, take our exclusive private car to Xi'an Airport and board the direct flight to Shanghai. The flight duration is about 3 hours. Upon arrival at Shanghai Pudong or Hongqiao Airport, our driver will provide priority pick-up service and transfer you to the downtown hotel to settle in, getting ready for tomorrow's Shanghai city tour.

Day 4 | Shanghai: The Bund, Yu Garden & Old Town Tour

Accommodation Accommodation:
4 star/5 star hotel/botique hotel (can be customized)
MealMeal:
Meals are flexible and can be included or excluded. When included, authentic local dining will be arranged.

Start your day tour at Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street, the most renowned century-old commercial corridor and the core business landmark of Shanghai. With a history of over 100 years, this fully pedestrianized street gathers time-honored Chinese brands, international fashion boutiques, specialty snack shops and creative cultural stores, witnessing the century-old commercial prosperity and urban evolution of Shanghai. Lined with elegant vintage architectural facades and modern commercial installations, the whole street blends retro republican-style charm and trendy metropolitan vitality. You can take a leisurely stroll, experience the bustling crowd and vibrant commercial atmosphere, taste classic Shanghai time-honored snacks, and browse characteristic local specialties and cultural and creative gifts, feeling the most lively and prosperous urban temperament of modern Shanghai.

A short walking distance from Nanjing Road leads to the iconic The Bund, a world-famous urban landmark stretching 1.5 kilometers along the Huangpu River. Honored as the "Exhibition Gallery of World Architecture", it features 52 well-preserved classic buildings covering Gothic, Baroque, Roman and neoclassical styles, forming a grand and exotic skyline with profound historical heritage. Walking along the open waterfront promenade, you can enjoy a stunning dual-view landscape: on the west side lies the solemn and elegant century-old exotic architectural complex full of historical vicissitudes; on the east side across the river stands the clustered modern skyscrapers of Lujiazui, forming a breathtaking contrast between retro classics and futuristic modern prosperity. The scenery is particularly stunning after sunset when thousands of lights are lit, making it the prime time for high-definition urban landscape photography.

Next, head to Tianzifang, the most representative old Shanghai shikumen cultural and creative block and a niche artistic landmark integrating nostalgia and fashion. Retaining the complete traditional shikumen architectural pattern of old Shanghai, the block is composed of crisscrossing narrow alleys, grey brick walls and black tile roofs, fully preserving the original street texture and life atmosphere of old Shanghai. Different from bustling commercial streets, Tianzifang is packed with handcrafted studios, art galleries, literary cafes, creative boutique shops and characteristic folk snack bars. Every alley and wall is full of artistic details and retro charm. You can wander slowly, appreciate unique hand-made artworks, shoot nostalgic old-style photos, and experience the quiet, delicate and artistic slow life hidden in the bustling metropolis of Shanghai.

Continue your journey to Yu Garden and Shanghai Old Town, the core gathering place of Shanghai's ancient cultural heritage. Built in the Ming Dynasty, Yu Garden is one of the best-preserved classical Jiangnan gardens in Shanghai, featuring exquisite stacked rockeries, winding verandas, clear running ponds and elegant ancient pavilions. The ingenious garden layout and delicate architectural details fully interpret the elegant, subtle and refined aesthetic of traditional Chinese Jiangnan gardens. Connected closely to Yu Garden is the ancient Shanghai Old Town, the birthplace of old Shanghai's urban civilization. The antique old streets are lined with century-old time-honored stores, traditional handicraft stalls and authentic local catering shops. Here, you can taste classic Shanghai delicacies such as soup dumplings and pan-fried buns, browse exquisite folk handicrafts, and immerse yourself in the strong traditional Jiangnan market atmosphere and ancient city charm.

The whole day's route is reasonably arranged with alternating dynamic and quiet scenery, covering commercial prosperity, exotic architecture, artistic nostalgia and ancient garden customs, allowing you to experience the diverse and inclusive urban charm of Shanghai in all dimensions.Return to the downtown hotel to rest after a full day of sightseeing.

Day 5 | Shanghai: Lujiazui Sightseeing, Free Shopping & Departure Transfer Service

Accommodation Accommodation:
4 star/5 star hotel/botique hotel (can be customized)
MealMeal:
Meals are flexible and can be included or excluded. When included, authentic local dining will be arranged.

Lujiazui, the iconic international financial hub on the east bank of the Huangpu River, boasts a dense cluster of super high-rise skyscrapers and modern urban landmarks. Today we focus on the Oriental Pearl Tower, the most symbolic city landmark of Shanghai with a total height of 468 meters, standing as a classic representative of Shanghai's modern urban landscape. All admission tickets are fully pre-booked and included in the tour package, allowing you to skip on-site queuing and enter the tower directly through the exclusive tourist passage. After entering the tower lobby, you will take the ultra-high-speed sightseeing elevator with a professional tour guide. The dedicated passenger elevator runs at a fast and stable speed, completing the ascent smoothly in merely tens of seconds, offering a unique rising experience overlooking the urban landscape layer by layer through the transparent elevator windows.

We follow a scientific and classic in-depth sightseeing route inside the tower, covering multiple core viewing layers with diverse landscape perspectives. First, arrive at the 90-meter outdoor sightseeing corridor, the low-altitude open viewing platform. Standing here, you can enjoy a close view of the neat urban layout of Lujiazui, dense high-rise buildings and the winding shoreline of the Huangpu River, feeling the vigorous vitality of Shanghai's financial center. Next, take the elevator to the core 263-meter main indoor sightseeing floor, the largest and most comprehensive viewing layer of the Oriental Pearl Tower. From this 360° panoramic viewing platform, you can overlook the entire urban landscape of Shanghai in all directions: the rolling Huangpu River runs through the city, the classical century-old architectural skyline of the Bund stands proudly on the opposite bank, and the clustered modern skyscrapers of Lujiazui stretch endlessly. The perfect collision of ancient exotic architecture and futuristic high-rise buildings presents a stunning layered metropolitan view. Continue to walk down to the highlight 259-meter fully transparent suspended sightseeing corridor, a famous thrilling check-in spot. The whole corridor adopts fully transparent glass design with no visual barriers. Stepping on the glass plank road, you can directly overlook the streets, roads and green belts hundreds of meters below your feet, bringing an immersive and exciting high-altitude viewing experience.

During the whole tower sightseeing process, you can clearly distinguish the four major urban landscapes of Shanghai: the classical exotic style of the Bund on the west bank, the prosperous modern skyline of Lujiazui on the east bank, the antique charm of Yu Garden Old Town in the distance, and the endless urban clusters stretching to the horizon. You can also learn about the architectural design concept of the Oriental Pearl Tower and the rapid development history of Lujiazui's financial industry under the professional interpretation, combining landscape appreciation with cultural knowledge.

After the in-depth tower sightseeing, you have ample free leisure time at your disposal. You can revisit your favorite high-altitude photography spots to record the stunning urban panorama, browse exclusive Oriental Pearl cultural and creative souvenirs, or wander around Lujiazui's central pedestrian area to experience the prosperous atmosphere of an international metropolis. You can also taste authentic Shanghai specialty snacks and select exquisite local gifts for relatives and friends.

After all activities, our exclusive private car will transfer you to Shanghai Airport or railway station according to your departure arrangement. This 5-day cross-city essence tour comes to a perfect end. From Beijing's royal majesty to Xi'an's ancient civilization, and then to Shanghai's modern prosperity, you have experienced the diverse styles of three classic Chinese cities and gained unforgettable travel memories.

Excellent service and a stress-free family trip from start to finish

This 11-day private tour through Shanghai, Suzhou, and Hangzhou was one of the most enjoyable family trips we have ever taken. What really stood out for us was the service from start to finish. Jennifer was our main contact from Buer China Travel and she was absolutely fantastic. She responded quickly to every message, patiently adjusted the itinerary multiple times based on our preferences, and always made us feel like everything was under control. It really gave us peace of mind before even arriving in China. During the trip, everything ran smoothly. There were no stressful moments at all. Our guide was extremely kind, patient, and very knowledgeable. She had a wonderful way of explaining the history behind each site without making it feel like a lecture, and she was especially good with our children, which made a huge difference for our family. We also appreciated how flexible the itinerary was. We never felt rushed, and we had enough time to truly enjoy each destination, whether it was walking along West Lake in Hangzhou or exploring the classical gardens in Suzhou. Overall, this was a very well-organized and thoughtfully designed trip. We would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting China for the first time.
