Day 1 Beijing: Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, Jingshan Park & Qianmen Street

Accommodation Accommodation:
4 star/5 star hotel/botique hotel (can be customized)
MealMeal:
Meals are flexible and can be included or excluded. When included, authentic local dining will be arranged.

Your guide and private driver will meet you in your hotel lobby after breakfast. As you leave behind modern Beijing's busy avenues and glass towers, the city gradually begins revealing its older layers. Today's route follows the historic central axis that shaped Beijing for centuries, providing the perfect introduction to China's imperial capital.

Our journey begins at Tiananmen Square, where the scale of Beijing immediately becomes apparent. Standing here, surrounded by monumental architecture and vast open space, it's easy to understand why this area has remained the symbolic heart of China for generations. Rather than simply taking photographs, we'll take time to understand how this location connects imperial Beijing, modern China and many of the country's most significant historical moments. From the square, your eyes naturally move north toward the crimson walls and golden roofs that mark the entrance to the Forbidden City, our next destination.

Passing through Meridian Gate feels like stepping into another world. The noise of the city quickly fades as enormous courtyards, ceremonial halls and intricate palace compounds unfold before you. Most visitors notice the scale first, but what makes the Forbidden City truly fascinating are the details hidden within its architecture. As we move deeper into the palace complex, your guide will point out symbols of imperial power carved into marble ramps, explain why certain buildings received special roof decorations and reveal stories of emperors whose decisions shaped the course of Chinese history. Rather than rushing through the main halls, we'll also explore lesser-known sections where quieter courtyards offer a glimpse into daily life behind the palace walls. By the end of the visit, the Forbidden City feels less like a museum and more like a living story.

After a morning immersed in imperial history, we'll enjoy lunch at a carefully selected local restaurant. This is a good opportunity to relax, recharge and sample traditional Beijing flavors before continuing the afternoon's exploration.

Leaving the palace behind, we cross directly into Jingshan Park. The short climb to the summit is well worth the effort. At the top, one of Beijing's most spectacular views suddenly appears. The entire Forbidden City stretches out below in perfect symmetry, its golden rooftops extending toward the horizon. Many visitors consider this the moment when the scale of imperial Beijing truly becomes clear. From here, you can see how carefully the city was planned and how the ancient capital continues to influence the modern skyline surrounding it.

After admiring Beijing from above, we return to street level and continue toward Qianmen Street. The atmosphere changes immediately. Formal palace architecture gives way to lively storefronts, historic shop signs and the everyday energy of local life. This district has welcomed merchants and travelers for centuries, and many traditional brands still operate here today. Whether you're interested in local snacks, traditional crafts or simply enjoying the atmosphere, Qianmen offers a wonderful contrast to the grandeur of the Forbidden City. As evening approaches, your driver will take you comfortably back to your hotel. Along the way, you'll pass through districts that reveal yet another side of Beijing, setting the stage for tomorrow's journey to the Great Wall.

Day 2 Beijing: Badaling Great Wall, Bird’s Nest & Water Cube

Accommodation Accommodation:
4 star/5 star hotel/botique hotel (can be customized)
MealMeal:
Meals are flexible and can be included or excluded. When included, authentic local dining will be arranged.

After breakfast, your guide and driver will meet you at the hotel for a journey beyond the city center. As Beijing gradually gives way to rolling hills and mountain scenery, anticipation begins to build. Today's destination is one of the world's most recognizable landmarks.

Few places inspire the same sense of wonder as the Great Wall. As the Wall emerges across distant mountain ridges, its scale becomes immediately apparent. Once on the stone pathway itself, you'll notice how naturally it follows the contours of the landscape, climbing steep slopes before disappearing over the horizon. Walking between watchtowers reveals constantly changing perspectives. One moment you're gazing across forested valleys, while the next you're standing atop a tower with panoramic views stretching in every direction. Your guide will share stories about military strategy, construction techniques and the immense effort required to build and maintain such a structure centuries ago. These insights transform the Wall from a famous attraction into a remarkable human achievement.

After exploring the Wall, we'll stop at a local restaurant near the scenic area. Mountain views and a relaxed pace make this an enjoyable break before returning to Beijing.

Back in the city, the scenery changes dramatically. The Bird's Nest appears almost sculptural, its woven steel structure creating one of the most recognizable modern buildings in the world. While its exterior is impressive, what many people find most fascinating is how it symbolizes Beijing's transformation during the twenty-first century. Standing here provides a striking contrast to the ancient engineering you experienced earlier at the Great Wall.

Just a short walk away stands the Water Cube. Its bubble-like design reflects sunlight during the day and glows beautifully after dark. Together, the Bird's Nest and Water Cube represent a modern chapter of Beijing's story, demonstrating how the city continues to evolve while remaining deeply connected to its past.

Your driver will escort you back to your hotel, allowing you to relax after a day that connected ancient China with modern Beijing.

Day 3 Beijing: Temple of Heaven, Summer Palace, Nanluoguxiang & Shichahai

Accommodation Accommodation:
4 star/5 star hotel/botique hotel (can be customized)
MealMeal:
Meals are flexible and can be included or excluded. When included, authentic local dining will be arranged.

Today's journey focuses on the softer side of Beijing. After meeting your guide and driver in the hotel lobby, we'll explore places where emperors sought harmony, where locals still gather daily and where the city's historic neighborhoods continue to thrive.

Unlike the imposing atmosphere of the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven feels open, peaceful and deeply connected to nature. Ancient cypress trees line broad pathways while local residents practice tai chi, play traditional instruments and gather beneath shaded pavilions. Before reaching the famous Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, you'll already begin to feel the unique atmosphere that defines this site. The elegant blue-roofed structure remains one of China's architectural masterpieces. More importantly, it reflects the ancient belief that harmony between heaven and earth was essential to the prosperity of the empire.

From the spiritual calm of the Temple of Heaven, we continue to the Summer Palace. The transition feels almost cinematic. City streets gradually give way to lakeside scenery, elegant gardens and shaded walkways designed for leisure rather than ceremony. Kunming Lake stretches across the landscape like a giant mirror, reflecting pavilions, bridges and distant hills. The Long Corridor unfolds beside the shoreline, its painted beams telling countless stories through colorful artwork. As you walk through the grounds, it's easy to understand why generations of emperors escaped here during Beijing's warmer months.

Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before we continue toward Beijing's traditional neighborhoods.

Leaving imperial gardens behind, we step into one of Beijing's most famous hutong districts. Nanluoguxiang combines centuries-old alleyways with contemporary local culture. Hidden behind traditional gray-brick walls are cafés, small boutiques and family-run businesses that give the area its unique personality. While many visitors focus on the main street, we'll also explore quieter side lanes where traces of old Beijing remain beautifully preserved.

From Nanluoguxiang, a pleasant walk brings us to Shichahai. The pace slows noticeably here. Willow trees sway above the water, historic bridges connect lakeside neighborhoods and local residents gather along the shoreline as they have for generations. As daylight softens, reflections dance across the water and the atmosphere becomes wonderfully relaxed. It's one of the few places in central Beijing where you can genuinely pause and appreciate the city's quieter side. After a full day of cultural discovery, your driver will take you back to your hotel to prepare for tomorrow's adventure in Tianjin.

Day 4 Beijing → Tianjin (by high-speed train): Five Great Avenues, Qingwang Mansion & Minyuan Square

Accommodation Accommodation:
4 star/5 star hotel/botique hotel (can be customized)
MealMeal:
Meals are flexible and can be included or excluded. When included, authentic local dining will be arranged.

This morning, your guide will meet you at your hotel and accompany you to the railway station. The high-speed journey takes less than an hour, yet the change in atmosphere feels much greater. While Beijing impresses through imperial grandeur, Tianjin charms visitors with elegance, diversity and architectural character.

Our first stop introduces one of Tianjin's most distinctive districts. Wide tree-lined streets are framed by hundreds of villas inspired by British, French, Italian and Spanish architectural styles. Walking through the area feels surprisingly European, yet unmistakably Chinese at the same time. Behind many gates lie fascinating stories involving diplomats, entrepreneurs and influential figures who helped shape modern Tianjin. Rather than rushing between landmarks, we'll take time to appreciate the atmosphere that makes this neighborhood so unique.

Continuing through the historic district, we arrive at Qingwang Mansion. This remarkable residence reflects a period when Eastern and Western influences merged in unexpected ways. Traditional Chinese decorative elements coexist with imported materials and European-inspired design features, creating a residence unlike anything found in Beijing. The mansion offers a deeper understanding of Tianjin's cosmopolitan history and its role as one of China's most internationally connected cities.

We'll enjoy lunch nearby while experiencing a different side of Northern Chinese cuisine.

In the afternoon, we continue to Minyuan Square. Originally a historic stadium, the area has been transformed into one of Tianjin's most attractive public spaces. Elegant architecture surrounds landscaped gardens, stylish cafés and open plazas where locals gather throughout the day. The atmosphere here perfectly reflects Tianjin itself—sophisticated, relaxed and effortlessly charming.

After sightseeing, we'll escort you to your Tianjin hotel and assist with check-in. The evening is yours to enjoy. A stroll along the Haihe River is highly recommended if you'd like to experience Tianjin after dark.

Day 5 Tianjin: Tianjin Ancient Culture Street, Italian Style Town & Tianjin Eye

Accommodation Accommodation:
N/A (Flexible, can be included based on your needs)
MealMeal:
Meals are flexible and can be included or excluded. When included, authentic local dining will be arranged.

After breakfast, your guide will meet you at the hotel for your final day of exploration. Today focuses on the city's cultural heritage and scenic riverfront.

The morning begins at Ancient Culture Street. Traditional architecture, folk art workshops and local specialty shops create an atmosphere that feels festive and welcoming. As you wander through the district, you'll encounter everything from handcrafted souvenirs to local snacks that have been enjoyed for generations. This area offers an excellent introduction to Tianjin's cultural traditions and daily life.

From traditional China, we transition to one of the city's most distinctive neighborhoods. Italian Style Town features elegant plazas, European facades and charming pedestrian streets that feel entirely different from anything you've seen in Beijing. The district's relaxed atmosphere makes it ideal for photography, coffee breaks and leisurely exploration. Every corner seems to reveal another attractive building or hidden courtyard.

We'll enjoy lunch overlooking the river before continuing to Tianjin's most iconic modern landmark.

The final attraction of the journey is the Tianjin Eye. Spanning the Haihe River, this giant Ferris wheel offers spectacular views across the city. As the cabin slowly rises, historic districts, modern skyscrapers and winding waterways come into view, creating a fitting finale to your Tianjin experience. It's the perfect place to reflect on the journey you've taken over the past five days.

Following the visit, your guide will accompany you back to Tianjin Railway Station for the high-speed train to Beijing. Upon arrival, your private driver will be waiting to transfer you directly to your Beijing hotel. As you settle back into the city, you'll carry with you memories of two remarkable destinations—one imperial, one cosmopolitan, both unforgettable.

Excellent service and a stress-free family trip from start to finish

This 11-day private tour through Shanghai, Suzhou, and Hangzhou was one of the most enjoyable family trips we have ever taken. What really stood out for us was the service from start to finish. Jennifer was our main contact from Buer China Travel and she was absolutely fantastic. She responded quickly to every message, patiently adjusted the itinerary multiple times based on our preferences, and always made us feel like everything was under control. It really gave us peace of mind before even arriving in China. During the trip, everything ran smoothly. There were no stressful moments at all. Our guide was extremely kind, patient, and very knowledgeable. She had a wonderful way of explaining the history behind each site without making it feel like a lecture, and she was especially good with our children, which made a huge difference for our family. We also appreciated how flexible the itinerary was. We never felt rushed, and we had enough time to truly enjoy each destination, whether it was walking along West Lake in Hangzhou or exploring the classical gardens in Suzhou. Overall, this was a very well-organized and thoughtfully designed trip. We would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting China for the first time.
