You can adjust your physical condition and settle down smoothly to prepare for the in-depth East China tour in the following days. After adequate rest, take a relaxed light city stroll to experience the unique charm of Shanghai's urban scenery.

These dazzling modern buildings shine with brilliant neon lights, forming a stunning visual contrast between timeless classical architecture and futuristic urban scenery. You can stroll along the riverbank, take high-definition night view photos, and immerse yourself in the luxurious and romantic night atmosphere of Shanghai.

After the relaxed evening sightseeing, the rest of the night is your exclusive free time. You can choose to have a taste of local Shanghai delicacies nearby, walk around the surrounding urban blocks, or return to the hotel to rest and recharge. No rigid itinerary arrangement ensures a comfortable and flexible arrival experience.

Accommodation Accommodation:
4 star/5 star hotel/botique hotel (can be customized)
MealMeal:
Meals are flexible and can be included or excluded. When included, authentic local dining will be arranged.

Today's itinerary focuses on exploring the perfect blend of old Shanghai nostalgia and modern urban vitality. Skip the crowded mainstream routes and follow your private guide to discover the most authentic cultural landmarks of Shanghai, with a relaxed and enjoyable sightseeing pace.

Wander through the timeless Shanghai Former French Concession, the most charming leisure block in the city. Lined with lush century-old plane trees, the quiet streets are dotted with elegant European-style old villas, literary boutique cafes and retro characteristic alleys. Away from the noisy commercial streets, this area retains the slow and romantic old Shanghai style. You can take casual walks, shoot literary retro photos, and feel the unique historical and artistic atmosphere of Shanghai.

Visit Yuyuan Garden, the most representative classical Jiangnan garden in Shanghai with a history of over 400 years. Well-preserved through centuries, the garden features exquisite pavilions and corridors, layered rockery landscapes, and tranquil flowing ponds. Every layout follows traditional Chinese gardening aesthetics, creating a delicate and secluded pastoral scenery. Your guide will explain the garden's historical stories and architectural features, allowing you to appreciate the profound charm of traditional Chinese garden art.

After visiting the garden, explore the lively Yuyuan Old Street surrounding the scenic area. Filled with antique Chinese-style buildings, the street gathers time-honored brand stores, traditional handicraft workshops and authentic Shanghai snack stalls. Here, you will spend your pleasant noon leisure time and enjoy a wonderful local lunch tasting authentic Shanghai flavors. You can stroll at a relaxed pace, browse exquisite traditional folk handicrafts, taste various local specialty delicacies, and immerse yourself in the strong traditional Chinese folk customs and vibrant market atmosphere.

In the afternoon, head to Shanghai's iconic Lujiazui Financial District, the symbol of modern Shanghai's prosperity. First, visit the landmark Shanghai Tower, China's tallest skyscraper and one of the world's top super high-rises. Take the world-class ultra-fast elevator that reaches the high observation deck in just 55 seconds. Standing on the 118th-floor Top of Shanghai Observation Deck at 546 meters high, you can enjoy a full 360° panoramic bird's-eye view of Shanghai. Overlook the winding Huangpu River, the classical Bund architectural complex, dense urban skyscrapers and sprawling city landscapes, witnessing the stunning integration of Shanghai's history and modern prosperity.

After visiting the Shanghai Tower, proceed to explore the renowned Shanghai Museum, one of China's top four major museums with profound historical and cultural value. Housed in a unique traditional architectural-style building, the museum collects hundreds of thousands of precious cultural relics spanning thousands of years, including ancient bronzes, calligraphy and paintings, ceramics, jade artifacts and folk art treasures. With professional guide's in-depth interpretation, you will systematically understand the long history and splendid traditional culture of East China, complementing the modern urban sightseeing with profound historical heritage experience.

After a fulfilling day of urban and cultural sightseeing, you will have free leisure time in the evening. You can taste authentic Shanghai local dinner, explore the city's lively night markets, or return to the hotel to rest and adjust your physical condition freely.

Day 3 | Shanghai to Hangzhou by Train: Su Causeway, Bai Causeway&Broken Bridge

Accommodation Accommodation:
4 star/5 star hotel/botique hotel (can be customized)
MealMeal:
Meals are flexible and can be included or excluded. When included, authentic local dining will be arranged.

After breakfast, take a convenient high-speed train from Shanghai to Hangzhou, a renowned city hailed as "Paradise on Earth". The Shanghai-Hangzhou high-speed railway boasts frequent daily departures and a short travel time of only about 45 minutes to 1.2 hours, featuring ultra-comfortable riding experience and punctual schedules. Upon your arrival at Hangzhou high-speed railway station, your professional local guide and private driver will be waiting for you for exclusive pickup service. You will be transferred smoothly to your local hotel for a short rest and simple refreshment to settle in. After a brief reorganization, you will take a private vehicle directly to the West Lake scenic area to start your classic Jiangnan lakeside sightseeing tour, focusing on the core iconic landscapes of West Lake with a slow and poetic travel pace.

Kick off your West Lake exploration with a leisurely stroll along the iconic Su Causeway, a 2.8-kilometer ancient lakeside corridor renowned as the "most beautiful scenery of West Lake". This time-honored causeway was originally constructed during the Northern Song Dynasty by the famous poet and statesman Su Shi, carrying profound historical and cultural heritage spanning over a thousand years. Stretching gracefully across the vast West Lake surface, the well-preserved causeway connects the north and south lake banks and is dotted with six delicate ancient stone bridges, creating layered and varied lake views. Lined with lush green willows and vibrant seasonal blossoms that bloom in succession throughout spring, summer, autumn and winter, the entire corridor presents distinct stunning scenery in every season. The winding tree-lined path perfectly blends rolling green hills, sparkling lake water, antique bridges and blooming flora, forming a vivid and timeless poetic Jiangnan painting. Walking slowly along the flat and comfortable trail, you can embrace the gentle lake breeze, listen to the rustling willow leaves and rippling lake waves, and stay away from the tourist crowds to enjoy the serene, healing and authentic poetic charm of West Lake.

Continue your poetic lakeside journey to explore the elegant Bai Causeway, another century-old iconic landmark and essential scenery belt of West Lake. Constructed in the Tang Dynasty by the renowned poet Bai Juyi, this historic causeway carries profound ancient literary heritage and has been a famous West Lake viewing spot for over 1,300 years. Stretching across the tranquil northern lake area, the flat, spacious and well-maintained stone causeway features an extremely wide and unobstructed view, totally different from the densely wooded and winding Su Causeway. Lined with delicate peach blossoms and graceful willow trees, the causeway presents varied stunning scenery across four seasons: blooming peach and willow shades in spring, refreshing green waterfront views in summer, clean and quiet lake scenery in autumn, and elegant frost and snow landscapes in winter. Walking along the causeway, you can freely overlook the layered rolling green mountains in the distance, sparkling rippling lake water, scattered lake islands and distant ancient pavilions, enjoying a panoramic open view of the West Lake core scenery. With breezy lake wind, quiet surroundings and picturesque scenery in every step, Bai Causeway offers an ultra-relaxed, immersive and healing lakeside sightseeing experience, allowing you to fully capture the classic gentle charm of Jiangnan landscapes.

End the daytime sightseeing at the world-famous Broken Bridge, the most symbolic ancient stone bridge of West Lake. With an elegant arch structure and superior geographical location, the bridge overlooks the beautiful lake scenery in all seasons. The biggest highlight here is the legendary Broken Bridge Remaining Snow, one of the Top Ten West Lake Scenes. If you travel on a snowy day, you can witness the stunning fairy-tale snow scene where half the bridge is covered in snow and half is exposed, a rare and breathtaking natural landscape.

Optional Acitivity: Impression West Lake Show – For travelers who are interested in immersive local cultural performances, you can choose to watch the famous Impression West Lake Night Show after daytime sightseeing. This large-scale outdoor live performance is staged on the real West Lake water scene, combining stunning light effects, elegant dance performances, melodious music and poetic Jiangnan water scenery, presenting a romantic and dreamy audio-visual feast that perfectly interprets the unique charm of Hangzhou's landscape and culture. If you want to arrange this exclusive night activity, you can consult your private tour guide in advance for detailed ticket prices, show time and reservation related details.

Excellent service and a stress-free family trip from start to finish

This 11-day private tour through Shanghai, Suzhou, and Hangzhou was one of the most enjoyable family trips we have ever taken. What really stood out for us was the service from start to finish. Jennifer was our main contact from Buer China Travel and she was absolutely fantastic. She responded quickly to every message, patiently adjusted the itinerary multiple times based on our preferences, and always made us feel like everything was under control. It really gave us peace of mind before even arriving in China. During the trip, everything ran smoothly. There were no stressful moments at all. Our guide was extremely kind, patient, and very knowledgeable. She had a wonderful way of explaining the history behind each site without making it feel like a lecture, and she was especially good with our children, which made a huge difference for our family. We also appreciated how flexible the itinerary was. We never felt rushed, and we had enough time to truly enjoy each destination, whether it was walking along West Lake in Hangzhou or exploring the classical gardens in Suzhou. Overall, this was a very well-organized and thoughtfully designed trip. We would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting China for the first time.
