Day 1 Arrive in Shanghai, transfer to the hotel by our driver, Bund

Accommodation Accommodation:
4 star/5 star hotel/botique hotel (can be customized)
MealMeal:
Meals are flexible and can be included or excluded. When included, authentic local dining will be arranged.

Welcome to Shanghai—the city where China's past and future stand side by side.

After you clear immigration and collect your luggage, there's no need to worry about finding transportation or navigating a busy airport. Your private driver will already be waiting in the arrival hall holding a welcome sign with your name. Once you've met your driver, simply relax in the comfort of your private vehicle while we take care of the journey into the city.

Depending on traffic, the transfer to your hotel usually takes around 45–60 minutes. Along the way, you'll catch your first glimpse of Shanghai's ever-changing skyline as elevated highways weave between futuristic skyscrapers and historic neighborhoods.

After arriving at your carefully selected hotel, our team will assist with check-in to make the process as smooth as possible. We intentionally leave the remainder of today lightly scheduled so you can recover from your international flight without feeling rushed.

If you're feeling refreshed after settling in, we highly recommend an easy evening excursion to The Bund—the city's most iconic waterfront promenade. As daylight fades, colonial-era buildings begin to glow in warm golden light while, across the Huangpu River, Pudong's famous skyline gradually comes alive. Watching the Oriental Pearl Tower, Shanghai Tower and surrounding skyscrapers illuminate one by one is the perfect introduction to modern China.

Rather than rushing from attraction to attraction, tonight is about slowing down and soaking in your first impressions of the country. If you'd like recommendations for dinner, your guide is always happy to suggest local restaurants based on your preferences, whether you're looking for authentic Shanghainese cuisine or something lighter after your flight.

At the end of the evening, simply return to your hotel and enjoy a restful night before tomorrow's full day of exploration.

Day 2 Shanghai: Yu Garden, Old Town, French Concession, The Bund

Accommodation Accommodation:
4 star/5 star hotel/botique hotel (can be customized)
MealMeal:
Meals are flexible and can be included or excluded. When included, authentic local dining will be arranged.

After breakfast, your guide will meet you in the hotel lobby to begin your first full day in Shanghai. Since today combines several of the city's most famous districts, we've carefully planned the route to minimize unnecessary walking while allowing plenty of time to explore each location at a comfortable pace.

Your morning starts inside Yu Garden, one of Shanghai's finest examples of classical Chinese garden design. Walking through elegant pavilions, winding corridors, peaceful ponds and centuries-old rockeries, you'll quickly understand why this garden has remained one of the city's treasures for over 400 years. Rather than simply pointing out landmarks, your guide will explain the symbolism hidden throughout the garden—from dragon walls to carefully framed views that reflect traditional Chinese aesthetics.

Just outside the garden lies Shanghai Old Town, where narrow lanes are filled with local snack shops, tea houses and traditional architecture. This is an excellent place to experience a side of Shanghai that existed long before the skyscrapers.

Around midday, we'll take you to a carefully selected local restaurant where you can enjoy authentic Shanghainese specialties. Whether it's delicate soup dumplings, braised pork or seasonal dishes, lunch is designed to introduce regional flavors in a comfortable setting.

In the afternoon, the atmosphere changes completely as you arrive in the leafy streets of the Former French Concession. Compared with the bustling Old Town, this neighborhood feels relaxed and elegant, with tree-lined avenues, European villas, boutique cafés and hidden courtyards. It's also one of the city's favorite districts for photographers, and your guide will happily point out some of the best photo locations along the way.

Before returning to your hotel, we'll finish the day back at The Bund, timed deliberately for late afternoon when the soft light creates some of the best views across the Huangpu River. Whether you choose to simply admire the skyline or capture unforgettable photos, it's the perfect way to conclude your first full day in Shanghai.

After sightseeing, your private driver will take you comfortably back to your hotel so you can relax for the evening.

Day 3 Shanghai → Chongqing (Flight): Private transfer from Airport to hotel by driver & Hongya Cave Night View

Accommodation Accommodation:
4 star/5 star hotel/botique hotel (can be customized)
MealMeal:
Meals are flexible and can be included or excluded. When included, authentic local dining will be arranged.

After breakfast, there's no need to rush or worry about navigating the airport on your own. At the agreed time, your private driver will meet you in the hotel lobby and transfer you comfortably to Shanghai Airport for your flight to Chongqing.

As China's geography changes beneath your window, so does the atmosphere of your journey. Leaving Shanghai's coastal skyline behind, you'll soon arrive in one of China's most dramatic cities—a place built between mountains, rivers and towering bridges.

Upon arrival in Chongqing, your local guide and driver will already be waiting outside the arrivals hall. After a warm welcome, you'll be transferred directly to your hotel in a comfortable private vehicle. Since Chongqing's roads are famously layered across hillsides, your guide will introduce the city's unique layout during the drive, sharing stories that help you understand why it's often called China's "8D Magic City."

After checking into your hotel and taking a short break, it's time for your first glimpse of Chongqing after dark.

We'll head to Hongya Cave, one of the city's most recognizable landmarks. Perched dramatically above the Jialing River, the complex of traditional-style buildings appears to float above the cliffside once thousands of lanterns begin to illuminate the evening. While many visitors only stop for photos, your guide will lead you to several quieter viewpoints where the architecture, river reflections and city lights can be appreciated without feeling rushed.

As you wander through the lively streets surrounding Hongya Cave, you'll notice the unmistakable energy that makes Chongqing unlike anywhere else in China. Local food stalls, glowing alleyways and riverfront promenades all contribute to the city's vibrant nighttime atmosphere.

For dinner, your guide can recommend excellent local restaurants if you'd like to sample Chongqing cuisine, from spicy hotpot to milder regional specialties tailored to your preferences.

Afterwards, your private driver will return you comfortably to your hotel, allowing you to rest before tomorrow's journey into one of China's greatest natural landscapes.

Day 4 Chongqing: Full-day excursion to Wulong Karst National Geology Park, Visit the highlight Three Natural Bridges (Tian Sheng San Qiao), back to hotel

Accommodation Accommodation:
4 star/5 star hotel/botique hotel (can be customized)
MealMeal:
Meals are flexible and can be included or excluded. When included, authentic local dining will be arranged.

Today's adventure takes you beyond the city skyline and into one of China's most spectacular UNESCO World Heritage landscapes.

After breakfast, your guide and driver will meet you at the hotel before setting off on a scenic drive to Wulong Karst National Geology Park. The journey takes around three hours, but the changing scenery is part of the experience. Urban neighborhoods gradually give way to rolling countryside, forested mountains and deep limestone valleys that hint at the extraordinary landscape ahead.

Upon arrival, your guide will help arrange the park shuttle and elevator so you can spend more time exploring and less time waiting in queues.

Descending into the valley, the scale of the Three Natural Bridges (Tian Sheng San Qiao) quickly becomes apparent. Massive limestone arches stretch overhead, towering more than a hundred meters above the forest floor. Walking beneath these ancient formations, you'll feel surprisingly small compared to nature's remarkable craftsmanship.

Unlike many visitors who simply follow the main path, your guide will point out hidden viewing angles, explain the millions of years of geological activity that shaped the landscape, and share fascinating behind-the-scenes stories from the filming of Transformers: Age of Extinction, which brought international attention to this remarkable site.

Around midday, we'll stop at a carefully selected local restaurant near the scenic area for lunch. Regional dishes prepared with fresh mountain ingredients provide a welcome break before continuing the afternoon's exploration.

As you continue through the valley, waterfalls tumble between cliffs while moss-covered stone pathways wind through peaceful forests. The slower pace allows plenty of opportunities for photography without feeling hurried.

By late afternoon, you'll return comfortably to Chongqing in your private vehicle. Many guests enjoy simply watching the changing mountain scenery through the window after a rewarding day outdoors.

Back at the hotel, the evening is yours to relax or explore nearby at your own pace.

Day 5 Chongqing: Ciqikou Ancient Town, Yangtze River Cableway(optional), Huguang Guild Hall, Afternoon transfer to Chaotianmen Pier, Embark on Yangtze River Cruise

Accommodation Accommodation:
Yangtze River Cruise
MealMeal:
Meals served onboard the Yangtze River Cruise

After yesterday's exploration of Chongqing's natural wonders, today shifts the focus to the city's rich cultural heritage before your unforgettable Yangtze River cruise begins.

Following breakfast, your guide will meet you at the hotel and accompany you to Ciqikou Ancient Town, one of Chongqing's oldest and most atmospheric neighborhoods.

Dating back over a thousand years, its narrow stone streets were once an important trading center along the Jialing River. Today, while the town remains lively, your guide knows how to lead you beyond the busiest corners to discover traditional tea houses, local craftsmen and quieter alleys where everyday life still unfolds much as it has for generations.

You'll also have time to browse for regional snacks or handmade souvenirs, and if you're interested, your guide can introduce some of Chongqing's best-loved local delicacies.

Next, you'll visit the beautifully preserved Huguang Guild Hall, where elegant courtyards, intricate wood carvings and historic opera stages reveal the fascinating story of merchants who migrated to Chongqing during the Qing Dynasty. Through your guide's storytelling, the architecture becomes more than beautiful buildings—it becomes a window into the city's commercial and cultural history.

If weather and timing allow, you may also choose to experience the famous Yangtze River Cableway (optional). Floating high above the river offers a unique perspective of Chongqing's dramatic skyline and the complex network of bridges connecting this remarkable mountain city.

Around noon, you'll enjoy lunch at a local restaurant specializing in authentic Chongqing cuisine. If spicy food isn't your preference, your guide will happily recommend milder options to suit your taste.

In the afternoon, there's no need to worry about luggage or navigating the busy cruise terminal. Your private driver will transfer you directly to Chaotianmen Pier, while your guide assists with boarding procedures and ensures your luggage reaches your cabin smoothly.

Once you've settled into your comfortable stateroom, take some time to explore the ship before gathering on deck as departure approaches.

As the cruise slowly leaves Chongqing behind, the city's illuminated skyline gradually fades into the distance. Towering bridges, riverside skyscrapers and glowing cliffside buildings create a spectacular farewell—the perfect beginning to your Yangtze River adventure.

Day 6 Yangtze River Cruise: Cruising along the Yangtze River, Onboard activities and scenic sailing, Captain’s welcome reception and night views of Chongqing skyline

Accommodation Accommodation:
4 star/5 star hotel/botique hotel (can be customized)
MealMeal:
Meals served onboard the Yangtze River Cruise

This morning, there's no early departure to catch and no luggage to repack. Instead, wake up to a completely different rhythm of travel as the gentle movement of your cruise ship replaces the pace of city sightseeing.

After enjoying breakfast onboard, step onto the sun deck with a cup of coffee and watch the Yangtze River slowly unfold before you. Mist often lingers over the surrounding hills in the early morning, while small riverside villages and fishing boats quietly pass by. It's these peaceful moments that many travelers later describe as one of the highlights of the entire journey.

Today is designed to let you fully appreciate life on the river. Rather than filling every hour with sightseeing, the schedule allows plenty of time to relax while the landscapes gradually change outside your window.

Throughout the day, the cruise offers a variety of cultural activities and entertainment. Depending on the sailing schedule, you may join sessions introducing Chinese calligraphy, traditional tea culture, tai chi, or local folk performances. If you prefer a quieter pace, simply find a comfortable seat in the observation lounge and enjoy the uninterrupted scenery as towering cliffs begin replacing the wider riverbanks.

At lunchtime, you'll enjoy a freshly prepared buffet featuring both Chinese and Western dishes, with panoramic river views accompanying every meal.

As evening approaches, the atmosphere on board becomes even more special. Tonight, you'll be invited to the Captain's Welcome Reception, where guests gather to celebrate the beginning of the Three Gorges journey. It's a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the elegant surroundings, meet fellow travelers, and learn more about the days ahead.

After dinner, spend some time on deck beneath the stars. Away from the lights of major cities, the river takes on a completely different character, with only the gentle sound of the water and the silhouettes of the surrounding mountains accompanying your evening.

By the time you return to your cabin, tomorrow's dramatic gorge scenery is just ahead.

Day 7 Yangtze River Cruise: Shore excursion to Fengdu Ghost City, Scenic sailing through Qutang Gorge, Pass by the famous Kui Gate (Qutang Gorge entrance)

Accommodation Accommodation:
4 star/5 star hotel/botique hotel (can be customized)
MealMeal:
Meals served onboard the Yangtze River Cruise

After breakfast, your cruise docks for one of the most fascinating cultural excursions along the Yangtze River.

You'll disembark with the ship's guide to explore Fengdu Ghost City, a destination unlike any other in China. Built upon Ming Mountain, this ancient complex combines temples, statues and traditional Chinese mythology to illustrate beliefs surrounding the afterlife. Rather than being frightening, the site offers a unique insight into Chinese philosophy, folklore and religious traditions that have been passed down for centuries.

As you stroll through stone gateways and peaceful temple courtyards, your guide will explain the legends hidden behind each sculpture and architectural detail, helping bring this mysterious place to life.

Returning to the cruise around midday, a freshly prepared lunch awaits as the ship continues upstream.

The scenery begins to change dramatically during the afternoon.

Gradually, the river narrows and steep limestone cliffs rise on either side as you enter the magnificent Qutang Gorge—the shortest of the Three Gorges, yet perhaps the most visually striking. Here, the mountains appear almost close enough to touch, creating an unforgettable sense of scale.

Keep your camera ready as the ship approaches the legendary Kui Gate, the iconic entrance to Qutang Gorge. Immortalized on China's 10 RMB banknote, this breathtaking view is considered one of the most recognizable landscapes along the entire Yangtze River.

Rather than rushing past, many cruise ships slow slightly here, allowing everyone time to admire the dramatic scenery from the observation deck.

As sunset paints the surrounding cliffs with warm golden light, you'll truly begin to understand why generations of poets and painters have celebrated this remarkable river.

Day 8 Yangtze River Cruise: Wu Gorge & Shennv Stream, Cruise through Wu Gorge, Optional excursion: Shennong Stream / Lesser Three Gorges, Scenic views of Shennv Peak (Goddess Peak)

Accommodation Accommodation:
4 star/5 star hotel/botique hotel (can be customized)
MealMeal:
Meals served onboard the Yangtze River Cruise

Today is often regarded as the most scenic day of the entire Yangtze River cruise.

If you wake early, you'll be rewarded with one of the river's most magical moments. Morning mist frequently drifts across the water as the cruise quietly enters Wu Gorge, creating an almost dreamlike landscape where emerald mountains disappear into low clouds.

Unlike the rugged grandeur of Qutang Gorge, Wu Gorge feels softer and more elegant. Twelve graceful peaks line the riverbanks, each associated with ancient legends that have inspired Chinese literature for centuries.

Later in the morning, you'll board a smaller sightseeing boat for an excursion into the peaceful waters of Shennv Stream. Since large cruise ships cannot enter these narrow tributaries, this smaller vessel allows you to venture deep into hidden valleys surrounded by untouched forests and towering cliffs.

The scenery becomes wonderfully tranquil as crystal-clear water winds through narrow canyons where local wooden boats occasionally drift past, offering a glimpse into a slower way of life that has remained largely unchanged.

Depending on seasonal water levels and cruise operations, this excursion may instead visit Shennong Stream or the Lesser Three Gorges, both equally spectacular alternatives carefully selected by the cruise operator.

Back aboard the cruise, keep an eye out for Shennv Peak (Goddess Peak), the most famous landmark of Wu Gorge. According to local legend, the mountain represents a goddess watching over passing travelers—a story your guide will happily share as the peak comes into view.

After another relaxing afternoon sailing through the heart of the Three Gorges, enjoy dinner while watching the final stretches of this extraordinary river landscape glide past your window.

Day 9 Yichang--Wuhan by train: Visit Three Gorges Dam, Disembark at Yichang, Private transfer to station for your train to Wuhan, transfer to hotel once you arrive.

Accommodation Accommodation:
4 star/5 star hotel/botique hotel (can be customized)
MealMeal:
Meals served onboard the Yangtze River Cruise

After several unforgettable days on the Yangtze River, your cruise arrives in Yichang, where the next chapter of your journey begins.

Following breakfast, there's no need to worry about coordinating luggage or onward transportation. Our local guide will assist you with disembarkation before escorting you directly to one of China's greatest engineering achievements—the Three Gorges Dam.

Standing atop the massive structure, you'll gain a true appreciation of its incredible scale. Stretching more than two kilometers across the Yangtze River, the dam has transformed transportation, flood control and hydroelectric power throughout China. As you walk between the viewing platforms, your guide will explain both the engineering challenges behind the project and its lasting impact on communities along the river.

After exploring the site, we'll enjoy lunch at a nearby local restaurant before continuing to Yichang Railway Station.

Your guide will assist with station procedures and ensure everything runs smoothly before you board the comfortable high-speed train bound for Wuhan. In just a couple of hours, you'll travel across central China while enjoying the convenience and efficiency of one of the world's most advanced rail networks.

Upon arrival in Wuhan, another member of our local team will already be waiting outside the station. After a warm welcome, you'll be transferred directly to your hotel, allowing you to settle in without any transportation concerns.

The remainder of the evening is free to relax after today's journey, preparing for tomorrow's exploration of one of China's most historic cities.

Day 10 Wuhan: Visit Yellow Crane Tower, Explore Tanhualin Historic Area, stroll at Jianghan Road Pedestrian Street

Accommodation Accommodation:
4 star/5 star hotel/botique hotel (can be customized)
MealMeal:
Meals are flexible and can be included or excluded. When included, authentic local dining will be arranged.

After breakfast, your guide will meet you in the hotel lobby, and together you'll begin discovering one of China's oldest river cities. With your private vehicle waiting throughout the day, there's no need to navigate busy streets or public transport—you can simply enjoy the experience at a comfortable pace.

Your first stop is the iconic Yellow Crane Tower, a landmark that has overlooked the Yangtze River for centuries. While the tower has been rebuilt several times throughout history, it remains one of China's most celebrated cultural symbols, inspiring countless poets and painters over the generations.

Climb to the upper levels and take in sweeping views across the Yangtze River, the Yangtze River Bridge and the modern skyline beyond. Your guide will share the famous legends associated with the tower, helping you understand why it has become such an enduring symbol of Chinese culture.

By late morning, the atmosphere shifts as you head to Tanhualin Historic Area, one of Wuhan's most charming neighborhoods. Unlike the city's busy commercial districts, these quiet lanes are lined with restored historic buildings, independent cafés, artisan shops and creative studios. It's an ideal place to slow down, browse local boutiques or simply enjoy the relaxed atmosphere.

For lunch, we'll take you to one of our carefully selected local restaurants nearby, where you'll have the opportunity to sample authentic Hubei cuisine. Depending on the season, your guide can recommend specialties prepared with locally sourced ingredients while accommodating any dietary preferences.

The afternoon continues with a visit to Jianghan Road Pedestrian Street, one of China's longest pedestrian shopping streets. As you walk beneath elegant European-style architecture dating back to the early 20th century, your guide will explain how Wuhan developed into one of the country's most important trading ports. Today, historic buildings stand alongside modern boutiques, creating a fascinating blend of old and new.

As the city begins to light up, you'll have some free time to browse local shops, enjoy a coffee, or simply watch daily life unfold before your private driver takes you comfortably back to your hotel for the evening.

Day 11 Wuhan:Visit Gude Temple, Explore Lihuangpi Road, Visit Hubei Provincial Museum, Leisure time at East Lake scenic area

Accommodation Accommodation:

Today offers a deeper look into Wuhan's cultural heritage, architecture and everyday life.

After breakfast, your guide and driver will meet you at the hotel before heading to Gude Temple, one of Wuhan's most distinctive religious sites. Unlike traditional Chinese temples, Gude combines Chinese, Burmese and Gothic architectural influences, creating a remarkably unique appearance rarely seen elsewhere in the country.

As you stroll through the peaceful courtyards, your guide will explain the temple's fascinating history and the cultural influences that shaped its unusual design.

Your next stop is Lihuangpi Road, where beautifully preserved European-style buildings now house galleries, bookstores, cafés and boutique shops. Rather than simply passing through, you'll have time to explore at your own pace, perhaps stopping for a coffee while soaking up the neighborhood's relaxed atmosphere.

Around midday, enjoy lunch at a well-reviewed local restaurant featuring regional Hubei flavors. Your guide is always happy to introduce seasonal dishes or recommend familiar options if you prefer something lighter.

In the afternoon, you'll visit the Hubei Provincial Museum, home to one of China's finest archaeological collections. Here you'll encounter extraordinary treasures, including the world-famous bronze bells of Marquis Yi of Zeng. Through your guide's storytelling, these remarkable artifacts become windows into more than two thousand years of Chinese civilization.

Before returning to the city, we'll make our final stop at East Lake, China's largest urban lake. Compared with the lively streets you've explored over the past two days, East Lake offers a refreshing sense of calm. Tree-lined walking paths, gentle lakeside breezes and expansive views create the perfect setting for a leisurely stroll before the day comes to an end.

As the sun begins to set, your private driver will take you back to your hotel, leaving the evening free for relaxation.

Accommodation Accommodation:

After several days of sightseeing, today invites you to experience Wuhan through the eyes of the locals.

Following breakfast, your guide will meet you at the hotel before taking you to the Yangtze River waterfront, where wide promenades and riverside parks provide an entirely different perspective of the city. Morning is one of the best times to visit, as residents gather for tai chi, dancing and leisurely walks along the river.

Continuing onward, you'll visit Guiyuan Temple, one of the most respected Buddhist temples in central China. Hidden beneath ancient trees, its peaceful courtyards provide a welcome contrast to the surrounding city. Your guide will introduce the temple's history and traditions while allowing plenty of quiet time to explore at your own pace.

Lunch is arranged at a local restaurant serving classic Wuhan specialties, giving you another opportunity to discover the region's distinctive culinary traditions.

Later in the afternoon, we'll visit lively Hubu Alley, where the city's famous street food culture comes alive. Rather than simply pointing out popular snacks, your guide will introduce some of Wuhan's best-loved local treats and explain the stories behind them. Whether you're curious about hot dry noodles, freshly made dumplings or sweet local desserts, you'll have plenty of opportunities to sample authentic flavors while wandering through the bustling alleyways.

By late afternoon, your private driver will return you comfortably to your hotel, giving you the rest of the evening to relax or revisit your favorite nearby neighborhood.

Perhaps you'd like to revisit a favorite neighborhood, spend more time shopping, relax in a riverside café or simply enjoy a slower morning after several days of sightseeing.

If you'd prefer to continue exploring, our team would be delighted to arrange optional experiences tailored to your interests. You might choose a Yangtze River evening cruise, a traditional tea experience, a local market walk, or an additional museum visit. Your guide can also recommend hidden cafés, bookstores or photography locations that many visitors never discover. Throughout the day, our local support team remains available should you need transportation arrangements, restaurant reservations or any last-minute assistance.

It's a relaxed conclusion before tomorrow's departure, giving you time to reflect on everything you've experienced—from Shanghai's cosmopolitan energy and Chongqing's dramatic mountain landscape to the peaceful beauty of the Yangtze River and the rich cultural heritage of Wuhan.

Excellent service and a stress-free family trip from start to finish

This 11-day private tour through Shanghai, Suzhou, and Hangzhou was one of the most enjoyable family trips we have ever taken. What really stood out for us was the service from start to finish. Jennifer was our main contact from Buer China Travel and she was absolutely fantastic. She responded quickly to every message, patiently adjusted the itinerary multiple times based on our preferences, and always made us feel like everything was under control. It really gave us peace of mind before even arriving in China. During the trip, everything ran smoothly. There were no stressful moments at all. Our guide was extremely kind, patient, and very knowledgeable. She had a wonderful way of explaining the history behind each site without making it feel like a lecture, and she was especially good with our children, which made a huge difference for our family. We also appreciated how flexible the itinerary was. We never felt rushed, and we had enough time to truly enjoy each destination, whether it was walking along West Lake in Hangzhou or exploring the classical gardens in Suzhou. Overall, this was a very well-organized and thoughtfully designed trip. We would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting China for the first time.
